Mi-cha Lowell's early life was fairly unremarkable, particularly for a Martian. Predominantly Korean ancestry. Parents worked as terraforming line techs. Large family. Earned good grades in school, exceptional only in her aptitude for languages. She earned extra credits for her family by acting as interpreter for other poor rednecks, who typically preferred not to rely purely on translation programs and generally could not afford smarter artificial options. Lowell earned a scholarship to the Cambridge campus in Nocturne-Qianjiao, during a period when the universities were trying to improve their image by accepting a more diverse student body. Did well at her studies - linguistics, naturally, dual focus of socio and evolutionary - but her economic background made it difficult to keep up with her fellow students. As before, she continued to act as an interpreter, in some cases for less savory elements, though never involved in outright criminal dealings.

It is in this period that she first comes to the attention of the Rangers, in particular one Eastwood Nguyen, known inexplicably as "No Name" Nguyen. Nguyen was called to a supposed hostage situation or potential shoot out between Barsoomian nomads and local grey market dealers. One of the nomads had drawn a gun on a dealer over some imagined insult or difference over forms of payment. Nguyen arrived expecting to find dead morphs, and instead found Lowell in command of the situation, having disarmed the nomad and subdued him with his own pistol. Impressed by Lowell's capability and coolness under pressure, Nguyen began using her as an interpreter himself. Nguyen apparently continued to see potential in her, and Lowell found some aspect of the Ranger occupation appealing. Based on her psych profile, probably a combination of the adventure, the risk, and the fact that she was helping people. Lowell is, in fact, a true believer in the ideals of law and order. In protecting the - relatively - innocent. She isn't naive, but there is a core of idealism that Nguyen and the Rangers tapped into.

After graduating, Lowell joined the Rangers and worked with Nguyen for several years. Her early career was successful, but unremarkable. During the Fall, she helped in the evacuation of Olympus. She earned some distinction for managing to quell an incipient riot between Arabic and Chinese ethnic gangs without backup and without having to shoot anyone. Her mentor, Nguyen, disappeared while trying to help evacuate settlements inside what would become the Quarantine Zone. Lowell inherited his responsibilities after the Fall. Lowell first appears in the Ozma files around this time. Rumors that she had made entries into the Zone trying to determine Nguyen's fate, flagged as a possible infection vector risk. Flag was lifted after a year - turned out Lowell was actually tracking down an Arsia Mons smuggler claiming to be No Name Nguyen.

Lowell came back to Ozma's attention in more dramatic fashion nine years after the Fall. Lowell agreed to track down a group of four teenage boys from Qianjiao who had entered the Zone on some kind of bullheaded male initiation right. Usual hormone driven idiocy, but poor timing. The boys, and then Lowell, stumbled into some kind of op. Still unclear whose - probably a black hypercorp job, but might have been autonomists or possibly even Firewall. They'd stirred up something in the Zone. Lowell managed to keep herself alive for three days, and get out the boys' egos, until a Ozma response team arrived. Even more impressively, she was able to prove that she was uninfected and provide key intelligence to the response team. Came out with some minor neural damage as a souvenir.

Based on the recommendations of the team leader ██ ████████, Ozma tenured an employment offer to Lowell following the end of the civil and criminal trials stemming from the incident. Lowell's decision to terminate the boy's morphs and extract their cortical stacks was upheld as the only reasonable method of ensuring their survival, but the PR fallout made her position untenable. Lowell, needless to say, accepted the offer.

Lowell is still relatively new to Ozma. Her profile suggests she has transferred her dedication to our role in defending humanity from x-risks. Could be somewhat problematic in those cases where exploitation rather than eradication is the preferred course of action. Still an excellent asset - experienced in high-risk and high-stress roles, good with a gun, difficult to rattle, trained for investigation, and most importantly good with people of nearly any affiliation - something Ozma often lacks, if we're honest with ourselves.

Oh - a piece of amusing trivia for you. Apparently family and grateful citizens keep trying to give Lowell Stetson or similar Western style hats as a gift, in keeping with the general Ranger callback to Old Earth cowboy imagery, but she has never once been seen wearing one. Apparently despises them. So you'll have to think of something else for her birthday.

█████████: I'm well, thank you. Not just a social call, I'm afraid. I just nailed down some information regarding these two operatives. Didn't make it into the reports because I hadn't fully verified. It turns out Mi-Cha Lowell and Min Xue know each other, professionally and socially. About four years ago, Min Xue was working a PI case. Usual sort of thing, one spouse thinks the other is cheating. Turns out it was something more complicated - the cheater was actually neck deep with Nine Lives. Had even fork-knapped his own wife at least twice. Real scumbag. Lowell was running down the ring from a different direction herself. The two ended up working together and wrapping the whole mess up with a neat little bow. Bodes well for operations going forward. Less welcome is the fact that they apparently tried to meet socially afterwards, get a celebratory drink. On at least six occasions I can confirm, plus two probables, this ended up in a brawl or shoot out when an ego hunter after Min Xue, someone with a immediate capture warrant out on them, or a lowlife with a grudge against one of the two showed up. After the sixth incident they fell back on intermittent mesh contacts, mostly just throwing each other interesting info now and then. Nothing too big, but useful data, no?
