Winter Melons are mysterious fruits/vegetables from the deepest, darkest corners of space. None know from when they originate, and every faction has blamed the other. Everything has been suggested: Terran "purity experiments," Silver nanotechnological horrors and Chaakanite abominations.

The only thing that's for sure is that every sentient creature in the galaxy shudders at the mention of their name.
